How do you describe your style?
Minimal aesthetic meets laid-back.
I built up everything from scratch… I always was into design so I studied Mediadesign, worked in a few agencies, started my own business, worked day and night as Art Director for a science magazine for several years, but this wasn’t enough to make me happy so I worked harder and built up my business as Art and Creative Director and Blogger by following my passion.
What is your favorite thing to do on weekends?
Spending time in cars, going on road trips, cars n’ coffee.
I studied Mediadesign and used to work as Senior Editorial Designer for a science mag and later as Art and Creative Director & photographer for several years. I could design a website, magazine, book, logo, CI etc. but since a few years I do a lot of styling jobs, photography and creative direction for brands next to creating content and sharing my life and passions on my personal Instagram @mija_mija.
What’s your passion?
Cars – I love the sound, the design, the smells – I could talk about cars and I could sit in a car (preferably vintage and muscle cars but a high performance sports car is pretty lovely as well) for hours and just enjoy the ride. That’s why I have quite a lot of friends in the automotive business or owned classic cars since a young age and why I work with brands like Porsche very closely – it’s my passion! I write, take photos and work with them on a creative level on a daily basis.
First classic car entered the Flatau family 2007 and was a white 1970 Buick Skylark followed by a Pontiac LeMans in 2013 and a 1970 Dodge Charger and a Porsche G model only a few years later. Times changed and so did the home base and the cars … GT3 RS, 1968 Dodge Charger R/T and a 930 3.0l are now in the garage and ready for road trips and coffee runs.
Well and every form of creative output that keeps me thinking like art, fashion, architecture.
I try to live a balanced lifestyle but I like food – from healthy juices to nasty burger. I go for long walks several times a week and I do cardio 30 min to 1 1/2 hours every day + weights for around 30-40 minutes.
What kind of person are you, what’s your nature?
I’m a very relaxed and positive person. I always try to make people laugh and I don’t take myself too serious. On the other side I’m very focused when it comes to work – I try to find solutions very fast instead of complaining – also in life. I don’t judge people – you never know what they are going through. I try to grow, learn and evolve every day – nobody’s perfect.
‘Knowledge is power’ ‘Keep it simple but significant’ ‘No risk, no story’ ‘Everything happens for a reason’.
Do you speak other languages?
German is my first language. English of course and I had French for several years at school. I also speak a bit Italian but it’s pretty rusty haha.
Where are you from?
I grew up in a small town in the south of Bavaria, Germany. It’s beautiful there. A big part of my family lives there.
Where did/do you live?
I used to live in Munich, Germany for several years then moved to London 2014 for two years. 2016 I moved to Los Angeles also for around two years and then Berlin for a bit. Now my city of choice is the city of light, Paris.
Favorite music genre?
It depends on the situation but Chillhop or Chillout music most of the time.
